A chance meeting on the trails of Brittany is bringing renewed attention to the mobilisation for the Al Rayyes family. In an Instagram Reel, former Belgian federal MP Simon Moutquin recounts meeting Jérôme, Emna and their young daughter. Together with Yaser and, later, a support committee, they have been involved since the beginning of the human story that became Human Sea Bridge.

A meeting that carries the story further

In this video, Simon Moutquin reflects on the story of Yaser Al Rayyes and his family. It is a deeply moving personal story that also echoes the experience of many Palestinian families facing war, displacement and the impossibility of accessing the care they need.

He also highlights the commitment of those who, often away from the spotlight, devote their time and energy to making possible journeys that remain suspended by administrative, medical or diplomatic obstacles.

The wait continues in Cairo

Evacuated from Gaza and now reunited in Cairo, the Al Rayyes family is still waiting for a solution that will allow their care pathway to continue.

Arafat, Yaser’s father, was seriously wounded and requires specialised treatment. His mother, Sanaa, must also be able to continue receiving care for cancer. Medical capacity has been identified in France, but the family’s transfer still depends on the completion of the necessary procedures.

In his Reel, Simon Moutquin directly calls on the French authorities to help bring this prolonged uncertainty to an end.

Valuable support for Human Sea Bridge

By mentioning Human Sea Bridge and inviting his community to follow and support our work, Simon Moutquin is helping bring wider attention to a struggle that reaches beyond one family.

Every share helps make these obstacles visible. Every new voice can reach an institution, hospital, partner or individual capable of opening the next stage of the journey.

We warmly thank him for speaking out, and we thank everyone who continues to carry this appeal forward.

The mobilisation must continue until the Al Rayyes family can safely access the care they need.
